Winter skincare tips for combating dry skin.

Winter skincare tips for combating dry skin.

As the temperatures drop and winter sets in, many of us experience a common skin woe: dryness. The combination of cold air, low humidity, and indoor heating can strip your skin of its natural moisture, leaving it dry, flaky, and irritated. However, with the right skincare routine and a few helpful tips, you can keep your skin hydrated and healthy all winter long. Here are few suggestions I think may help:

1. Switch to a gentle cleanser. Winter is the time to put away harsh, drying cleansers and opt for a gentle, hydrating formula. Look for cleansers that are free from sulphates and contain moisturizing ingredients like glycerin or hydrating actives. A creamy or oil-based cleanser can help to clean your skin without stripping away its natural oils.  Our Micellar Balancing Cleanser is perfect for dry skin – all the surfactants are coconut derived, contains allantoin for restoring the skin lipoid barrier and seaweed extract for long-term hydration. It also removes heavy make up without disrupting the skin’s balance. Worth to try it!

2. Incorporate a hydrating toner. After cleansing, applying a hydrating toner can help prepare your skin to absorb the next steps in your skincare routine. Look for toners that are alcohol-free and contain hydrating ingredients like floral/fruit waters.  hyaluronic acid or aloe vera. These ingredients can help to add an extra layer of moisture and soothe your skin, making it feel refreshed and hydrated. Our Hydro-soothing Toner Mist is ideal to use all year around. It contains the Mediterranean garden – watermelon and rose water, rosehip oil, yogurt, pomegranate enzymes for gentle exfoliation day after day and proteins from lemons, kale and carrot for hydration and overall skin regeneration.

3.  Add a hydrating serum to your routine. By doing this, you will give your skin an extra boost of moisture. Look for serums that contain hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, or niacinamide, which can help improve the skin’s barrier function and reduce water loss. If you live in a big city, you are prone to have dry skin as the environment is more polluted than the rural areas. It is crucial to use a serum with antioxidant in it, like Vitamins or Q10. Our bestseller Face Shield Serum (insert link) is the go-to product. It is packed with goodness – Resveratrol, Vitamin F, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic acid and bunch of Mediterranean botanicals for complete skincare.

4. Don’t skip sunscreen. Even in winter, UV rays can damage your skin and contribute to dryness. Make sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even when it’s cloudy or snowy. This will protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent further moisture loss. Those who love snow and skiing – there is no more dangerous combination between sun and snow, there you will need SPF 50.

5. Use a humidifier. Indoor heating can make the air inside your home very dry, which can dehydrate your skin. Using a humidifier helps to add moisture back into the air, keeping your skin from drying out. Place a humidifier in your bedroom or living area to maintain a healthy level of humidity.

6. Exfoliate gently. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and allows your moisturizers to penetrate more effectively. However, it’s important to be gentle during winter to avoid further irritation. Opt for a mild exfoliant and limit your exfoliation to once or twice a week. Avoid harsh scrubs and choose chemical exfoliants with ingredients like lactic acid or glycolic acid. I am a huge fan of the AHA, BHA and enzymes.  We use only natural AHAs – a combination of orange, sugar maple, sugar cane, lemon and bilberry.

7. Protect your skin.

Cold wind and dry air can be harsh on your skin. It may sound trivial, but protect your face by wearing a scarf or a hat when you go outside. Don’t forget to wear gloves to protect your hands, which are often the first to show signs of dryness and cracking. Cold wind is the wors enemy of your skin and lips.

8.Go for overnight treatments. Take advantage of the nighttime to give your skin some extra TLC. Use a rich, nourishing night cream or an overnight mask that is designed to hydrate and repair your skin while you sleep. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants can work wonders overnight. Our Anti-oxidant Lifring Day&Night Cream is ideal for skin regeneration – it contains three Mediterranean oils – olive, watermelon seed and grape seed – rich in minerals and squalene, will do the job perfectly.

Winter doesn’t have to mean dry, flaky skin. By adjusting your skincare routine and incorporating these tips, you can keep your skin hydrated, healthy, and glowing all season long. Remember, consistency is key, so stick to your routine and enjoy the benefits of well-moisturized skin throughout the winter months. Listen to your skin, and don’t be afraid to modify your routine as needed. Sometimes, the smallest changes can yield the biggest results. Investing in quality skincare products and dedicating a few extra minutes to your routine each day can help you achieve and maintain beautiful, resilient skin, no matter how harsh the winter weather may be.

Don’t forget that a holistic approach is often the most effective. Combining a balanced diet, adequate hydration, and a consistent skincare regimen will give your skin the best chance to stay supple and radiant. Treat your skin with the care it deserves, and it will thank you by looking its best, even in the coldest months.

Here’s to a season of healthy, glowing skin!
