Skincare myths debunked: common misconceptions and the truth behind them

When it comes to skincare, there’s no shortage of advice—whether it’s from your favorite beauty influencer, a well-meaning friend, or that glossy magazine article you just read. But with so much information flying around, how do you separate fact from fiction? Unfortunately, some skincare tips that sound helpful are actually myths that can do more harm than good.

We’ve all been there—trying the latest trendy products or techniques, only to end up confused when things don’t go as planned. That’s because not every “skincare hack” is backed by science, and some long-held beliefs about skincare are simply outdated. I have spent 19 years in the skincare ingredient industry, and I can say that that what I learnt being in the best laboratories in the world counts...a lot.

Myth 1: Expensive skincare products work better

  • The Myth: If it costs more, it must be better, right? Many of us think that pricier products automatically mean better results.
  • The Truth: The reality is, great skincare doesn’t have to come with a luxury price tag. Many affordable brands use the same science-backed ingredients as expensive ones. What matters most is what’s inside the product and how it works for your skin. So don’t be afraid to try budget-friendly options that include key ingredients like hyaluronic acid or vitamin C. Your skin will thank you—without breaking the bank!
Myth 2: Oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer
  • The Myth: If you have oily skin, adding moisturizer will just make you shinier and clog your pores.
  • The Truth: Actually, your oily skin needs moisture, too! When you skip moisturizer, your skin might overcompensate by producing even more oil. The trick is to choose a lightweight, oil-free formula that hydrates without feeling greasy. Keeping your skin balanced is key, even if it tends to get oily throughout the day.

Myth 3: You only need sunscreen on sunny days

    • The Myth: Sunscreen is only necessary when you're out at the beach or soaking up the sun.
    • The Truth: Surprise! UV rays don’t take a break on cloudy days or indoors—they can still sneak through clouds and windows. So, sunscreen should be a daily habit, rain or shine. It helps protect your skin from premature aging, wrinkles, and those pesky sunspots. Adding SPF to your morning routine is an easy way to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful long-term.

Myth 4: Natural ingredients are always better for your skin

  • The Myth: "Natural" equals better and safer for your skin.
  • The Truth: Just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for your skin. Some natural ingredients (like essential oils) can be irritating or cause allergies. Meanwhile, many synthetic ingredients are carefully tested and super effective. It’s all about the right dosage used in a product and finding what works best for your unique skin. EVERY SYNTETIC INGREDIENT USED WITHIN THE PERMITED BY THE LAW PERCENTAGE IS SAFE ! I will not stop repeating this, because there are too many washed brains out there, and too much fear spreading among the consumers. Don’t get too caught up in labels—look at the ingredients and how they benefit your skin.

Myth 5: More is always better

  • The Myth: Piling on more products and using them frequently will give you quicker, better results.
  • The Truth: More isn’t always more when it comes to skincare. Overloading your skin with too many products—especially those with strong active ingredients—can cause irritation, breakouts, and other issues. Instead, focus on a simple, consistent routine that works for your skin. Sometimes sticking to the basics (cleanser, moisturizer, and moisturizer/sunscreen) is the best way to keep your skin healthy and happy. Here comes our Mediterranean Glow Set – a simple four-step complete care routine – cleanser, toner, serum and a moisturizer.

Myth 6: You don’t need to worry about anti-aging until you're older

  • The Myth: Anti-aging products are something you don’t have to think about until you start seeing wrinkles.
  • The Truth: Prevention is key! It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin. Using sunscreen, antioxidants, and hydrating products in your 20s and 30s helps keep your skin in top shape and delays those visible signs of aging. So, even if wrinkles seem far away, getting a head start on your anti-aging routine will pay off in the long run. Our Face Shield Serum is the go-to product – a light aqueous gel, perfect for younger skin, it prevents from premature ageing, thanks to the Resveratrol, Vitamin F and rosehip fruit extract.

Skincare can be tricky to navigate with all the myths floating around, but now that you know the truth, you’re better equipped to take care of your skin. Remember, skincare doesn’t have to be complicated—stick to what works for you, and don’t fall for every trend. Consistency, science-backed products, and a little self-care go a long way in keeping your skin happy and glowing!
